“The Record Store and Black Music” is set to premiere at the University of Greenwich on 26th October, followed by screenings at independent cinemas like Leicester’s Phoenix cinema on 31st October. After the cinema run, the documentary will be released online. This multimedia project, launched by 2Funky Arts, was inspired by a call for “hidden gems of culture, history, and heritage” to be featured.

This premiere follows a wave of similar celebrations of Black music, including the Netflix documentary “The Evolution of Black Music,” featuring iconic names like Goldie, Fabio & Grooverider, and Roni Size. Earlier this year, the British Library also opened an exhibition, “Beyond The Bassline,” which explores 500 years of Black music in Britain.
