It seems obvious in a way, when you consider the early house music tracks coming out of the United States often featured the word ‘Jack.’ A new short documentary by Mixmag looks at an aspect of House music that often goes under the radar-dance.

House music crossed the Atlantic to the UK rapidly. But the codified dance, originating from the lgbtq community took a bit longer as the documentary explains through the various talking heads.

The documentary touches on the differences in influence to dancing in the UK and the US with the UK having stronger ties to Hip Hop and funk initially.

The documentary features a bona fide dance crew who discuss the lack of emphasis on dance in the current UK club scene. They also detail why they choose to use dance as a form of expression to the music. Well worth a watch.
