After a bit of a slump, independent vinyl releases are becoming very popular. In this article, we run down a few people fuelling the revival.In recent years vinyl has gone from being the topic of fierce online debate to once again being a tangible thing. It’s difficult to pinpoint exactly where, when and how this revival began but it is very much in full flow right now.We know you’re sick of hearing about the pandemic but even Covid played its part in a surge of productivity as musicians and labels took to Bandcamp to release tons of new records.Among oldskool hardcore and jungle enthusiasts, Music Preservation Society was one of the first players in the wax rejuvenation. Represses were initially crowdsourced before MPS moved to a subscription based model. Kool Fm DJ and events promoter, Billy Daniel Bunter released a number of vinyl releases through his Music Mondays online store around about the same time as Aquasky member, Brent Newitt set up Vinyl Fanatiks.It was clear at this point that something big was happening. Seminal Hardcore Rave label Kniteforce began releasing vinyl again, reissues, unreleased material and brand new material. All these brands now have a healthy following and we haven’t even mentioned all the Jungle producers from Lavery, Pete Cannon, T Cuts and Jungle/D&B labels like Ghetto Dub and countless others who have all put out vinyl and continue to do so.But it’s not just Hardcore/Jungle labels and producers. Two prominent House & Techno vinyl labels are Shall Not Fade and Lobster Theremin, both rightly lauded for high quality musical output from new and established artists.
