We take a look at the big issues, news stories and hot takes this week in the world of dance music

We start with perhaps the bigest news of the week, a report published by The Jaguar Foundation finds that that dance music is still dominated by males and shines a light on female and non binary people in the industry who are working hard to bring about change.

More sad news comes in a report by NTIA. The report finds that 1 in 5 UK nightclubs have closed their doors for good since the onset of the pandemic and calls the government to account for not doing enough to protect the industry.

Popular streaming platform, Soundcloud has laid off 20 percent of it’s workforce citing the need for ‘sustainable profitability’ which does sound rather like a continued race to the bottom for the music industry in general and highlights the problematic relationship between music and Silicon valley. Our advice? Use Bandcamp if you want to support your favourite artists.
