DJ Tech Tool’s 2024 Predictions

DJ Tech Tool’s Dan White predicts that 2024 could see the introduction of Beatport DJ gear, updated Pioneer mixers and controllers, and an overall focus on stems mixing. You can read the whole article here.

Soundcloud Up For Sale

In other news, reports are circulating that Soundcloud may be up for an estimated value of over $1bn. This is an interesting development, considering Soundcloud has achieved some financial stability.

DatPiff x Internet Archive

You can now access the largest collection of Hip Hop mixtapes in the world via the Internet Archive. The famous online mixtapes platform, DatPiff moved their content to the Internet Archive due to vonc that a hard drive crash would wipe out a huge chunk of musical history.

Daft Punk x Salvador Dalí

Well, kind of! Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk fame will soundtrack a Salvador Dalí biopic directed by Quentin Dupieux. The soundtrack will be available through the Ed Banger imprint on 10″ vinyl.

Went to On the Rise as an ageing professional (whatever that means! ;)) DJ with a big set coming up and no knowledge of setting up for the new generation of USB CDJs. They were absolutely brilliant. They jumped straight on it and over a couple of nights had me ready and raring to go. At the gig and it all worked like a dream. Was unbelievably grateful. 10/10

Brilliant. Booked a day's DJ course so our 16 year old could learn the fundamentals before blowing all her savings on some decks and more vinyl. Terry was amazing with her - very knowledgeable and enthusiastic - and she came away buzzing, having learnt to scratch, beat-match and more. I was a bit worried it was quite expensive when we signed up, but having seen the facilities and teaching now think it's actually great value. Can't recommend highly enough. Hopefully will be back for day 2 in 6 months!

PURE CLASS!!!! On the Rise DJ academy is the best! Terry and Jay are absolute legends and at the top of their game. I went to OTR with just a pure love of dance music and not a clue about DJing but wanted to learn, started at the basic level and within an hour was mixing tracks on CDJs. Starting with how tracks/music is laid out and built, then onto beat mashing, setting the pitch and how to blend tracks together. They both take the time to get to know you and the music genre you are into and carefully select tracks based around your preferences but are easy to learn with. You set the pace you want to learn at and they are experts in all aspects of the music business. They can teach you software or hardware specifics or provide unbiased advise all kit thats out their. Absolute top class!!! Could not recommend it enough whatever level your at.

Jay is an amazing teacher. Through a four hour session he was able to cover a wide variety of key topics in a very accessible way. The session was highly personalised and hands-on. Whatever I felt wasn't appropriate for me, we simply skipped. It was also adjusted to my skill-level, gear used and future goal. Amazing feeling when Jay shows you where you currently are (skill-wise), what you need to do to get where you want to be and then blows your mind with the last 10%. Highly recommended!

Jay the tutor was great. We had a discussion about my goals and what I wanted from the lesson and he delivered all the things I wanted. His knowledge is great but he didn't run with it and was careful to ensure I was on board all of the time by encouraging me to ask questions and getting answers that made sense and built in my head the picture that I required in order to get to the next level of working with Traktor. Highly recommended and already looking forward to my next lesson.

Learn To To DJ at On The Rise DJ Academy / Patrick -Student (DJ Course)

Loved it. I signed up to a 3 day course to learn how to evolve my basic beat matching skills to get to grips with some new equipment, learning phrase mixing, use of effects and management of RekordBox. I can safely say that I left feeling like I got very good value for money, due to the amount and quality of the one on one tutorial time, which you rarely get on other DJ courses in London. Jay and Terry are lovely guys, true masters of their craft and excellent teachers. Jay was always energetic, positive and inspiring and Terry shared lots of nuggets of wisdom about getting ahead in the industry. The studio is a great place to learn and the vibe is very relaxed and friendly. Highly recommended for Djs of all levels to learn or master their craft.

Learn To To DJ at On The Rise DJ Academy (Student) (DJ Course)

The 3 day 1 on 1 course was amazing. A real eye opener on how to fully use my controller (Pioneer DDJ SX2) and Serato DJ. Jay showed me how to use iTunes properly for playlists and how to organise my music, which I was having issues with. I was using Serato crates but after seeing the iTunes side I have changed to this method. Terry was great at showing me how to scratch and was really patient whilst I got the hang of it. Overall a great experience and will definitely book some sessions in the future.
