New Trans Charter Launches to Promote Inclusivity and Safety in the Music Industry

A new initiative has just launched with the aim of making the music industry safer, more inclusive, and equitable for trans and non-binary people. Led by long-time music industry advocate, Saskhia Menendez, the Trans Charter for the Music Industry is the latest project from shesaid.so—a global network championing gender equality in music.

The charter sets out practical guidelines for labels, venues, promoters, and industry bodies to follow in order to better support and protect trans and gender-nonconforming workers and artists. Its four key pillars focus on:
– establishing trans-affirming policies
– amplifying trans and non-binary voices
– providing access to educational resources
– building networks of care and collaboration

“The Trans Charter is more than a document, it’s a movement toward lasting change,” Menendez said. “The inspiration comes from years of witnessing the harsh realities that trans and non-binary individuals face in music—from exclusion to unsafe working environments. This Charter is about building a future where respect and inclusivity are the norm, not the exception.”
