New DnB and Jungle From Vector Burn

Those of you familiar with receiving and reacting to DJ promos on a daily basis will be familiar with the increasingly AI-generated blurbs that come with these promos. That’s not a knock on the people who use it. It saves time, and most of the time it gets to the point. But every now and again, you come across what can be described as ‘music writing.’ The artist behind this release produced the tracks and also wrote about them.

And this is not a cop-out, but the words are really worth reading as they describe the tracks far better than this writer could. So, we are reproducing below the very well-written and descriptive blurb by the artist Vector Burn. You should go and grab the EP right now. You can do so here. Now read on….

“In The Wind”

As in: to disappear, to escape, to vanish.

But also deeply rooted in the human/divine Breath of Life, as represented by all the woodwinds and saxophones and organic sounds. This body of work returns to the essential ingredients of DNB, including a theme of organic breakbeats and wind instruments. Every song uses a saxophone to build a union between the organic and the synthetic – a bridge from the ground to outer space.

“Secret Admirer”

A modern, half-cybernetic romance featuring handmade (emulated) organic drums, pushed to the brink of overstimulation by memories of soul, funk, and jazz. I was imagining different scenarios of how adoration, gaze, regard, and scrutiny run on a continuum. On one hand, you might feel good if someone you loved was thinking about you. But maybe you don’t want certain people, entities, institutions, or technologies to be constantly thinking about you. That might start to feel like pressure or stalking or harassment or surveillance or persecution.

I was vaguely inspired by the tune by the dubstep supergroup Magnetic Man called “The Bug”, which seems to be from the viewpoint of The Internet itself. My poetic sense was sparked when I came across that uncanny valley, a clearly artificial text-to- speech sample. So, who is thinking of whom? Mixed and mastered by Fanu.

“Cold Crush”

Featuring transcendent lyrical samples from Inspectah Deck and a reaching Reese melody. Multiplying the tradition of a half-time breakdown, we go into a 1/4-time trap, before launching back into the wet neon stratosphere. Highly inspired by Sci-Clone, this track was beautifully fortunate to have been mastered by one-half of the duo, Jason A-Sides.

“Kirby Krackle”

Bubbling out of the old school into the future, “Kirby Krackle” is a silver surfer. Inspired by a Jack Kirby museum exhibit, “Kirby Krackle” uses classic breaks and visionary Nas samples to rip a hole through space and time. Mixed and mastered by Fanu.

In The Wind. Galaxies, electrical networks, rhythms. Old school and new.
