We spoke to Cat aka Faded Society about her platform for helping DJs run their own events and effectively market themselves. Read on to learn about this huge opportunity….

What are the two venues where the Faded Presents nights take place on Thursdays?

Currently, Club Makossa in East London (Dalston) and Four Quarters in Southeast London (Peckham Rye) are supporting this project. Both are well-loved, iconic basement clubs known for supporting underground talents in this scene. As the project grows, I may extend it to other areas of London. I’d love to hear your nominations for venues, maybe even up north or west of London for DJs in those areas.

What is the process for applying, and how do you select which DJs or crews to host a night?

I try to help make most ideas happen, but I especially love when DJs get creative with their purpose. In the past, DJs have led a variety of themes, such as a global Afro house night featuring DJs playing music from a diaspora of the genre, a female-only lineup representing Southeast Asian women, LGBT+ bass nights featuring all kinds of UK bass genres from badass queers, or a night dedicated solely to disco!

The leading DJ (or DJs) can apply via the Google form to share more about their event idea. The form will prompt questions such as the event name, music themes and vision, potential DJ lineup, and, most importantly, how they plan to promote and market the event. Some people have a clear vision, while others might need extra help, but it’s good to understand the overall vision before I offer more guidance.

What type of support and guidance does Faded Society provide to the selected DJs to help them organize and market their events?

For those who get selected, they’ll receive resources such as a step-by-step guide on how to get started, from planning details to the information required for their own RA event page, as well as marketing tips they might not have considered when designing content. I’ll advise on how to attract strangers to an unknown event and provide a £50 marketing fund to go toward any creative promotion ideas. Their event will be featured on the official website under “What’s On” for the month and will also get collaborative post features on Faded Society’s Instagram.

The venues are fully supportive in assisting on the night to help the event run smoothly. I run a WhatsApp community with over 350+ members, so DJs can post about their events in the Faded Ravers Fam channel and gain exposure to a variety of ravers in the community!

What is the motivation or goal behind your initiative to support and launch new DJ nights? What is the broader purpose or impact that you’re aiming to achieve?

I became a DJ around 2019 and decided that I was going to organize my own nights so I could play since promoters were saying no to me! Once I made it happen, I realized there’s so much to learn and teach others who want to do the same. They say DJing is lonely and unsupportive, which is why I’m changing this perspective and building this underground music community. I’m passionate about nurturing grassroots talents, and so I created Faded Society Ltd, the brand to do exactly this—providing space, opportunities, and developmental training to help DJs and artists grow. Great things happen when people support each other!
