One of the UK’s most popular DJs sadly passed away this week. Stu Allan was a legend, loved and respected across the globe for his contributions to DJing and dance music.

Rather than writing an obituary, we recommend this excellent piece by the BBC which sums up Stu’s major contributions to the scene. Stu’s Key 103 shows in Manchester are legendary, having inspired 3 generations of ravers. Here’s what people are saying on Twitter:

Sad to hear the news. RIP Stu Allan – Great guy with a passion for music Will missed missed. Thoughts with family & friends.. One of the original Rave DJ’s…

I’m very saddened to learn this. Stu introduced me to early acid house, New York vocals and rave & hardcore. His key 103 show was one of the few staples I had in my life as a teen raver. RIP. Absolute Hero of mine. 💔

Only just heard about @stu_allan. Devastated. He was the reason why the north of England got into House, Electro and Acid. Such a lovely fella. So sad.

Stu Allan was both a DJ and a producer. He broke the top 40 on several occasions as part of ‘Clock’, representing everything from Pop-Dance and Nu-Disco to Eurodance & Makina

He was also a huge part of the early rave scene. This track under the Visa alias was a staple of Carl Cox’s sets back in 93 and you can hear why, still a banger!

Perhaps the best way to remember Stu is to listen back to his sets. Here’s a couple you can check out below:
