You might think this is some kind of meme born out of the warped British psyche, but ‘HomeBass’ is a real thing. Quite simply, it’s a rave in a van, an idea that started during the COVID lockdowns but has since moved into the public domain, where huge headliner DJs now play live sets from the said van.

There is a certain amount of controversy around this initiative, but there was also controversy around the birth of the modern club/festival scene in the UK, something that started illegally but became legal over time. As the threat of the pandemic slowly subsided, the van rave garnered attention from mainstream outlets like the BBC and recently, The Guardian.

A father and son DJ team kicked off HomeBass, Si & Jackson Long, who have kept it going, partly to shine a light on the struggles ravers face in the post-COVID world. Not just ravers, but even fans of the theatre and other forms of night-time entertainment. The events have always been run thoughtfully, often lasting a mere few hours, always cleaning up after the gig so as not to inconvenience others and to protect the environment.

The duo has turned this venture into a successful brand against all odds. These days, you can find them at festivals up and down the country, playing the very best in Garage and DnB.
