Matthew Kayne aka DJ Sugar Kayne, runs Sugar Kanye Radio. His story is a tale of resilience and determination as a passionate DJ living with cerebral palsy and conquering the trials of bladder cancer.

We had a chance to talk to Matthew about his journey into music and his goals. You can read the interview below:

What role has music played in your personal healing and resilience?

Music has been a crucial part of my healing journey and resilience. It has provided me with an emotional outlet and a way to cope with the challenges of my health conditions. The act of creating and sharing music has given me something to look forward to and has significantly improved my mental well-being.

What are some of your favorite genres or eras of music to mix, and why do they resonate with you?

I enjoy mixing various genres, but I have a particular fondness for electronic dance music and classic hits from the 80s and 90s. These genres resonate with me because of their energetic beats and nostalgic value. They bring people together and create a vibrant atmosphere, which is what I aim to achieve with my DJ sets.

How do you envision the future of your music career, and what goals or dreams do you hope to achieve next?

My dream is to DJ on a major radio station like Heart, Capital, or Kiss and to share my story on TV. I want to use my platform to raise awareness about cerebral palsy and the importance of inclusivity in the media industry. My ultimate goal is to inspire others with similar conditions to pursue their passions and to advocate for more opportunities for people with disabilities in all.
