As reported by Gemma Ross for Mixmag, a significant portion of artists have reported stagnant or decreasing gig payments. The study, conducted by PIRATE, a DJ, rehearsal, and recording studio network, surveyed 1,700 band members, solo artists, and DJs. The findings reveal that while 54% of artists experienced no change in gig fees, a concerning 29% reported a decrease in payments. In contrast, only 17% of respondents noticed an increase in their gig earnings, despite the rise in ticket prices.

The study, which can be read here, features artists and industry leaders calling on the UK government to intervene and take steps to support independent artists and stop this downward spiral.
