DJ Set Review: Ruze UK – Mixmag Lab Live at Wagtail Rooftop, London

I absolutely love this set by Ruze UK for Mixmag’s Lab live event, recorded at the Wagtail Rooftop in London. The Brummie lads serve up their signature warm, funky, UK Garage influenced Deep Tech House sound, and they’re joined by Charlie Jeer who plays live sax to add real mood and atmosphere to the proceedings.

What makes this set particularly special is that there’s no tracklist, and I suspect that’s because it’s full of what’s known in the DJ trade as ‘Percies’ – personal productions, bootleg remixes, unreleased and not yet released tunes. This gives the whole thing an exclusive feel, like you’re hearing something genuinely fresh that isn’t available anywhere else yet.

The production quality and selection throughout is smoother than a Galaxy chocolate bar. Ruze UK have a knack for building energy without ever feeling rushed or aggressive. The UK Garage influences sit perfectly within the Deep Tech House framework, creating something that feels nostalgic and forward-thinking at the same time. Charlie Jeer’s live sax elevations add an organic element that lifts key moments without overplaying, showing real restraint and musicality.

This is the kind of set that works whether you’re listening whilst working, pre-gaming for a night out, or just appreciating quality house music done properly.

Turn this one up for maximum satisfaction. Ruze UK continue to prove why they’re ones to watch in the UK house scene, blending influences with skill and bringing something genuinely enjoyable to the table every time.
