DIASPORA: A New Celebration of Culture and Connection Lands in Bristol

Bristol’s creative scene is about to welcome something special. Grove and Loco Klub have joined forces to present ‘DIASPORA’-a new series that puts migration and cultural heritage at the heart of the city’s nightlife. Supported by Arts Council England, this is a a platform for stories, sounds, and connections shaped by movement across borders.

DIASPORA isn’t tied to one format. Expect live music, workshops, mentorship programmes, and collaborations with the local community.  More than entertainment-it’s about amplifying voices, sparking creative confidence, and redefining nightlife as a place for resistance, joy, and shared history across generations.

At the centre is producer and vocalist ‘Grove.’ Known for blending dancehall, bass, and hip-hop with an unflinching political edge, Grove is steering the project towards celebrating the continuing influence of migration on Bristol’s identity. The line-up will feature artists predominantly from BIPOC backgrounds-a reflection of the diversity that fuels the city’s cultural life.

First up: Don Letts+Saturday 6 September

The Grammy-winning filmmaker, DJ, and cultural icon will open the series with a screening of ‘In Those Days: Stories from the Windrush’, followed by a Q\&A with Jamal Ackford. Later in the night, Don will take to the decks alongside Rider Shafique & Ishan, Grove, and DJ Flight-a pioneer for women in drum & bass.

Early announcements and tickets will go first to the DIASPORA mailing list. And for those where cost is a barrier, free tickets are available for young people and low-income attendees-no questions asked.

This is a chance to gather, listen, and recognise the cultures that keep Bristol’s heart beating.
