The next WMC is planned for the 20/21 May, giving artists and attendees an opportunity to experience a new format for the iconic week-long event. WMC will continue to include live performances, showcases, panels, musical education and workshops into its programming but this year its online.

While Covid restrictions are the main driving factor for the WMC going online this year, this is a great opportunity for people who may not be able to access these events due to disability or other reasons. I’m editorialising a bit here but as a sight impaired person, I do hope these events retain an element of virtual conferencing. I’m sure there are a lot of people from the sight impaired to wheelchair users who would happily pay to view these events from a computer. After all, you can watch sports events from the comfort of your home easily.

Getting back to the event itself, the line-up is truly huge. Headlined by keynote speeches from NWA’s Arabian Prince and Twitch Co Founder Kevin Lin (who is clearly taking the music livestreaming side of Twitch seriously) plus guest speakers from Pioneer DJ and Beatport, Jazzy Jeff and Junior Sanchez, this Winter Music Conference looks to be very insightful regarding the future of dance music and DJ’ing.
