New on the BBC sounds app is a podcast series called ‘Turn It Up-A short history of Drum and Bass’ We take a look (or rather a listen) to the first episode ‘The Birth.’

The BBC and DJ Flight manage to pack a LOT into a 15min, 50sec episode with literally loads of talking heads from Carl Loben to Mc Chickaboo and Bryan Gee.

What’s good to hear is the recognition of the Windrush generation and the LGBTQ+ community to the foundations of UK Rave.

No good rave documentary is complete without some great background music and theres plenty of that including audio of SL2 and Isotonik on Top of the Pops. Episode one ends withcommentary on the evolution of early rave to what would become Jungle citing Top Buzz ‘Living In Darkness’ and Metalheadz ‘terminator’ as the game changers.
