We asked some of our DJ friends about their favourite DJ gear from 2022 and what they’re looking forward to in 2023, here’s what they had to say…..

Favourite DJ Gear….

Eitan Zilkha (DJKitUK)- My vote is the Pioneer DJM-S5 mixer. Not just a tidy little mixer but the fact it is USB powered makes it ultra portable. Not many people realise it can be used with Algoriddim djay on an iPad with DVS making it the most compact and only laptop free DVS setup.

DJ AIMSS- DJM-S7 & Rev7 it’s on my wish list. I love the layout and the performance of both of them. There’s something about it that feels easier than common CDJs & mixers.

I also like the new Serato stems because I like the idea of performing live mash ups. Secondly I think it makes mixing exiting again, because there is more options to play with sound.

The Pioneer DJ DDJ-REV series has been a game changer IMO, especially now Serato Stems has been implemented on top. The REV7 is one of the best controllers I have ever played on, and bringing that battle style layout to an entry level controller (REV1) is going to be great for the open format DJ scene.

DJ Ratzi (DJKitUK)- As a rekordbox user, it’s really put me in a tough spot where I am genuinely on the brink of switching to Serato. If it wasn’t for my mac being not up to spec for Stems, I definitely would have switched already!

DJ Moneyshot (The Allergies)- The best thing I bought for my DJ set up this year would have been MK Stands’ turntable isolation boots. They’re these little rubber feet you pop on your decks to stop feedback and noise being picked up when you’re playing out. Great when spinning 45s, and great for extra control signal stability with a Serato/Phase set up, too.

Statik-My favourite bit of DJ kit that I have used the most this year has to be Phase. I used it in live gigs and also competitions this year and it was a relief to not have issues around losing signal when using a needle and a Serato record due to overpowering low frequencies on club systems or turntables being in disrepair. Going forward using this Phase, some more integration with production software could be interesting.

What are you looking forward to in 2023?

DJ AIMSS- Becoming a tour DJ. It’s something I had a small taste of in 2022 but I would like to go on tour with an artist in 2023 and experience it all.

DJ Ratzi (DJKitUK)- Wishful thinking here, but Pioneer DJ’s answer to Stems in rekordbox and the DDJ-REV7 becoming rekordbox compatible / Selling a kidney to buy a new mac so I can switch over to Serato!

I’m planning on getting back into livestreaming in 2023, so I’m looking forward to that on top of some other exciting projects in the pipeline!

DJ Moneyshot (The Allergies)- My crew, The Allergies, will be dropping a new album and we’ll be hitting the road with the live band this summer – Can’t wait!

Eitan Zilkha (DJKitUK)- For next year, I’d like to see what the new Rekordbox app brings with performance mode and the possibility of stems on standalone controllers would be great.

Statik-For 2023 I’m hoping to release some more music, work on a live set for this music and also release more mixes and create more DJ routines. Perhaps enter some more competitions this coming year.
