A couple of months ago, Pioneer released a video documentary about the experience of DJs in the pandemic. The doc features a number of high profile DJs like Eats Everything, Rebuke and Honey Djon.

While no one needs reminding of the economic effect of Covid 19, listening to the DJs really brings home how many jobs are linked to the multi billion dollar industry that is DJing, events and festivals.

The struggles are highlighted and they need to be. Many feel the rebound from this shutdown will be a slow one but its not all doom and gloom. Eats Everything talks about his interactive live streams where listeners get to choose the genre of a set, Rebuke talks about NHS nurses thanking him for making a bad day better and we hear how the Defected brand kept spirits high with ‘virtual festivals.’

There is a brief discussion of the pros and cons of monetising live streams and DJs talk about some of the positives to come out of the lockdown like better physical and mental health and more time with family. You can watch the documentary for free on You Tube and its worth sharing with your non DJ friends to give them a bit of perspective and better understanding especially in light of the current government stance around live music events.
