A Russian turntable enthusiast has shown off his unique mod to the beloved Technics SL-1200.

The turntable has been modded to play a digital library of tracks with the aid of control vinyl. Unlike instances where you would need to include a computer into the mix, this requires no external connections and reads tracks from an SD card.

As he explains and shows in the demo video below, the turntable works normally unless you turn it on while holding down both the speed buttons. Then it shifts to DVS mode, allowing you to easily sift through digital tracks, set cue points and create loops. It basically works like an old-school CDJ — except it’s not an old-school CDJ, it’s a Technics SL-1200 and that’s pretty damn cool.
