Denon DJ just announced a huge update of its Engine app (version 1.5).  The DJ library management platform has had a visual overhaul and adds support for the company’s brand new MCX8000 controller, allowing you use it as a standalone DJ system without the need for a laptop.

Engine Software 1.5

Engine 1.5 is a desktop software utility for managing music files used with Denon DJ media players. It’s been updated and optimized for use with the MCX8000, but Engine supports all legacy Denon DJ Media Players. Engine supports both Mac and Windows operating systems. Equipped with a database creation function, it has the ability to import Serato DJ hotcues directly. Overall, whether you are familiar with Engine software or you’re new to it, you can rest assured this a well-built ecosystem that organizes your music efficiently.

Color Waveforms

High-resolution color waveforms based on the frequency content of the music in your collection. Low-frequency slices are drawn Red, Middle Frequency slices Green, and High-frequency content is drawn in Blue. This helps to visually identify percussive elements and other sonic frequencies inside your music.

Key Filtering

Building crates and playlists for harmonic mixing just got a whole lot easier! Engine 1.5 has added the ability to filter your collection by the Key information stored in the track’s metadata. You can even select multiple Key signatures along with a BPM range to build crates and playlists with music that will sound great together.

Serato DJ Hotcue Support

With the Engine 1.5 update we also added the ability to import your Serato DJ hotcues from your existing Serato DJ database. Simply drag any track with stored hotcue data from Serato DJ to your Engine Library, and analyze the tracks. Then you can use the same tracks with hotcues in standalone mode without your computer.

Extensive Collection Support

Engine Music Management software supports a massive amount of tracks: up to 100,000 in a single collection! There’s Playlist support for up to 1000 tracks per playlist and crate support for over 500 crates with 7 sub-crates, all in a single Engine Library or Engine Target USB. As DJ’s, we know having access to a large number tracks at all times is important.

Lightning-Fast File Analysis

Our audio file analysis speed is unrivaled. With “Auto Analyze” on, you can simply drag tracks into your Engine library. Engine will quickly import all of the track information, set beat points based on BPM and generate a high-resolution color waveform based on the frequency of the audio content.

Useful Keyboard Shortcuts

Preparing music for a gig is often time-consuming and repetitious. With Engine’s keyboard shortcuts you can quickly prepare the tracks in your set list. Load a track, set your hotcues, load the next track and repeat. All with a couple of keyboard strokes. Couldn’t be easier.

Create an Engine Library

Create a database on your computer to manage all your music files within the Engine utility software. You can add music files stored on your computer from your hard drive and external USB memory.

Analyze your entire music library (including large libraries) to read bpm, time and key signatures. Create playlists and crates within the Engine utility software to prepare for your sets. Cue points and loop points can be set in the software as well.

Drop your music onto your flash drive [Engine Target]:

Once you have analyzed and set your cue points in your crates/playlists, you can easily drop your lists directly onto your flash drive. Plug your flash drive into the MCX8000 and rock out!
